HOTEL GRAND STARK

509 SE Grand Avenue

Beam Development acquired the Shleifer Furniture building in 2015. Originally built in the late 1890s as the Gayosa Hotel and rebranded as the Chamberlain Hotel soon after the turn of the century, the building is a historic landmark and contributing property in the Grand Avenue Historic District, and one of the oldest structures remaining in what was formerly known as downtown East Portland.

Beam Development partnered with Urban Development + Partners to complete an extensive renovation of the building into the Hotel Grand Stark. Renovation highlights include a seismic upgrade, new infrastructure and finishes throughout along with meticulously restored historic elements. The development team engaged Palisociety to program and operate the hotel. Other project collaborators include Works Progress Architecture, DCI Engineers and North 45 Projects.

Hotel Grand Stark comprises 57 hotel rooms, the Grand Stark Deli and Bar Chamberlain, along with a large communal lobby and study hall. The hotel will serve as a destination for out-of-town travelers and locals alike and is an important project contributing to the continued evolution of the Central Eastside.
